Leather Hybrid Trifoldstar rating 4AlexNovember 17, 2011I got this wallet about two weeks ago. I really like it!! It started out pretty thick, but over a couple days I guess it stretched out a bit. I have about 11 cards and they all fit very nicely. I do one recommendation: Instead of the key holder in the money section, I would prefer a regular divider because it can get messy organizing receipts and they all get mixed up with the cash, plus the key holder is kind of annoying. Oh and by the way: I am a fan of the logo on the outside:) And I might be buying another one soon enough-- thinking about the L fold.

Leather Hybrid Trifoldstar rating 4KevinAugust 20, 2011When I first put all my cards in, I was a bit disappointed as the Big Skinny Tri Fold was the same thickness as my old trifold. After a few days of use, I guess the material stretched a bit to form a better shape to allow the wallet to close properly. It isn't breath taking but it is thinner and lighter. The logo is a bit cheesy but nobody really would see it unless you left it on a table.

So glad my wife surprised me with this birthday gift (which she slipped in my morning newspaper for my train commute to GCS). Moved over 21 items over and my old leather trifold EMPTY is the same size as my new big skinny with all my stuff. Love how light it is as well. buying one and a big skinny t-shirt for my harley driving brother for xmas. buy it.

It is thin, but honestly was no thinner than my old wallet. What I didn't like was the leather looks and feels just like cheap vinyl--stiff and feels like it could crack easily--not soft like leather. I've since tried my first front-pocket wallet (from saddlebackleather) and absolutely love it. Big Skinny notes: Our leather hybrids feature a thin top grain leather layer over the nylon support layer with the rubberized backing--this structure actually prevents cracking and our top grain leather usually looks almost new even after years of wear which is never the case with any other leather wallets out there which are supported only by a satin lining & cardboard. As for thinness, it's simply physics, our material on the inside of our leather hybrids is our proprietary nylon which is 7 times thinner than any leather so it is impossible for any of our hybrid leather-nylon wallets to be thicker than a comparable full leather model. Physics is still physics.

The only reason it isn't 5 stars is because it does seem to be a bit fragile around the edges. Big Skinny notes: Don't worry about the edges, we use double-edge stitiching around the perimeter where the leather and the nylon are connected. Plus we are the only wallet company that gives you a warranty!

R.August 5, 2010I knew from the moment I read that it has "top grain" leather (instead of full-grain) that this would be a cheap-looking wallet, but this wallet fell short of even my already-low expectations. Most top-grain leathers at least somewhat resemble full-grain leather, but the leather on this wallet feels like some sort of nylon-plastic hybrid. Had I not known that I ordered a leather wallet, I would have assumed that it is some sort of man-made material. The wallet also has a large "big skinny" logo on it that's quite ugly, but that is easily remedied by folding the non-logo fold over the logo one (since this is a trifold). All that said, I would be willing to sacrifice a little of the slimness for a wallet that doesn't look as cheap as this does. There are other slim alternatives out there that do use full-grain high quality leathers. Big Skinny would do well to take a page out of their books. It will not hurt this company to offer a higher quality wallet at a higher price. Big Skinny Notes: The difference between "Top" grain leather and "Full" grain leather is not of quality (they are the same quality-both are the same outer skin rather than the cheap genuine leather which is inner layers of skin) but rather finish. "Full" grain is closer to the original look of the leather where "top" grain leather has been buffed a bit to make it smoother and that results in a more modern look. We do not use cheap leather at all, rather it is a matter of taste. We actually used to offer "full" grain as an option but our customers overwhelmingly preferred the more modern sleek look of "top" grain leather--and our "top" grain leather hybrids age beautifully-just talk to one of our customers who has been using it for years--we have customer videos to that affect. In every leather hybrid wallet, we use very thin leather over-layed onto our proprietary nylon microfiber which does all the work in keeping your wallet extra-thin. There are no other leather wallet companies whose leather wallets even come close to our thinness--our nylon is .21mm wherereas leather cannot be cut any thinner than 2.0 mm or it will fall apart quickly so it is impossible for any leather to compete with our nylon. The leather doesn't class-up the wallet too much, so don't expect too much or something they are not advertising. I ordered two wallets (a trifold, and multi-pocket) and the leather on each was a little different. Not really sure why, and nothing was indicated about different kinds of leather in the descriptions. I'm very satisfied with both wallets overall, and love how incredibly thin they are! Big Skinny notes: there are slight differences in leather due to the batch and because we slice the leather very thin and overlay it over the nylon microfiber so you still have the benefit of the rubbery coating on the reverse and the strength and support of the underlying nylon which in the hybrids keeps the wallet very thin.
Leather Hybrid Trifoldstar rating 3G GJune 10, 2010I paid extra for a leather big skinny wallet because I expected it to look more like a real wallet, and less like something a kid would carry. And I'm sad to report, this does not meet that standard. I've carried a lot of leather wallets over the years, and this has to be the cheapest feel of all of them. The embossed BIG SKINNY logo on the front is also a major issue. It's embarrassing. It looks like the logo of a skateboard company. Please put your logo inside somewhere if you must put it on your products. I'm going to try to tough this out for a while longer, because I do appreciate having a thin wallet... but this is not a wallet that Cary Grant would carry. A wallet is not just a functional piece.. it's also a statement about a man's taste level. Get that right, and you will _really_ have a product to sell. Big Skinny Note: We see our wallets as being more like the Robert Mitchum rather than the Cary Grant type of wallet although we appreciate both. Robert Mitchum was the big yet skinny guy you wanted on your side when you were fighting the bad guys. Since our leather hybrids have top-grain leather overlaid on the nylon wallet (that way you have our special rubbery coating working everywhere) your wallet will be lighter than a normal leather wallet yet still have the skinny functionality. So--our wallets are like having Robert Mitchum in your corner when you need him and his sense of over the top humor. Our logo is meant to emphasize that sense of exuberance in carrying a lot of stuff but still being light and humorous on your feet just like Robert Mitchum...

Leather Hybrid Trifoldstar rating 5John CabanDecember 8, 2009Hi, Just recieved my leather trifold in the mail today and had to make a remark about it. This thing is "GREAT"...Had ordered in the past when you had your microfiber wallets and they were ok. I felt like they were like something you bought your kids. The last one I returned and made a comment about having leather. I currently had a Dopp wallet and it was slim and was a very good wallet. Well the Dopp is now in the drawer and the trifold is now my wallet of choice. Have not had a trifold since the late 80's and got rid of them because they were too bulky. This is the same size as my old Dopp but it is a trifold!!!! It is also the same height as my Dare cell phone but a little wider.. The construction is Great and I love how deep the bill section is. Don't have to worry about my money falling out. Just wanted to say thanks and tell you that this wallet will now be my wallet of choice.. Next time I am in the Boston area I will have to shake Kiril's hand or even buy him a drink. Sincerely John Caban
